BABYLON (= chaotic)

BERLIN

C 1920s

Gereon Rath  DCI is relocated to Berlin which is rife with corruption, police and public alike.

However some city police appear to be striving to achieve some sort of honest policing.

Berlin, in those post ww1 years was populated by some German/Russians keen on assimilating Germany into socialism.  The usual gangster types dealt drugs and women in the competitive business which no one denied or could do much to quell.  Underground activities quietly bubbled on.  Dead bodies were found, with tortured hands, in cars pulled from the river.  These came to attention of DCI Rath and he pursued those responsible

Competition for markets, money and even gold seemed to be an open secret. No one would have expected ww2 to be on the horizon.  Detectives did what they could. Women worked as they could. The book is interesting in the usual cops and robbers way.

I have been referred to watch the series inspired by this book set in tumultuous times. I think it will be engrossing.
