FIONA McINTOSH
Born in UK but calls South Australia Home.
BYE BYE BABY
MIRROR MAN.
McIntosh recently gave talks on her books and career in Adelaide's Regal Cinema, Kensington Road.
Several of my friends have enthused about her books, so I decided I should try them out.
I read the two above, her early books. All about serial murders. The hero was DI Jack Hawksworth ably supported in his hunt for the killer/s by strong interesting lady detectives. Also it provided enough love interest which seems necessary, but these females were good characters with a bit of a twist.
Despite both books having strong, detailed descriptions of the killings, once the handsome tall dark haired detective gets on to the case, the author gives us a jolly good chase.
The killings really nearly put me off, too much details, yuk, but I stayed on with my reading.
As a young woman writer coming from the UK tradition of famous detectives, crime novels , tv series and movies, I guess she was brave enough to make a difference with the explicit deaths of victims. She would be noticed.
Redemption (from gruesome death descriptions) is gained through a strong yarn, sound plot, good writing, and well developed characters.
McIntosh has developed a strong readership in South Australia.
